The mother of Tyre Nichols has said that she is disappointed that it was five black police officers who brutally beat her son to death in Memphis on January 10 while he was on his way to her home.<\/h3>\n

Nichols\u2019 mother, RowVaughn Wells, said the officers had disgraced their families and communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hate the fact that it was five Black men that actually did this to another Black man,\u201d Wells told MSNBC. \u201cMy son probably was their age.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old was near his mother\u2019s home when it happened and called out for her as he was being beaten.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey just brought disgrace to themselves,\u201d she continued. \u201cI\u2019m not an evil person, my son is not an evil person \u2026 I pray for (the officers\u2019) families because their families didn\u2019t deserve any of this either.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nichols was a photographer and skateboarder and had been out taking photos of the Memphis sky just before the incident.<\/p>\n

Last night, at a vigil in his honor, his mother smiled watching skateboarders use the same park her son once did.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe in my heart that my son was on assignment from God,\u201d Wells said. \u201cHe finished his assignment and God took him back home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wells has called for any protests in her son\u2019s name to be remain peaceful.<\/p>\n

All five former officers \u2014 Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Desmond Mills Jr., Emmitt Martin III and Justin Smith \u2014 have already been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, among other charges.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Associated Press<\/a> in South Carolina on Saturday, Trump said that it \u201cshould never have happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought it was terrible. He was in such trouble. He was just being pummeled. Now that should never have happened,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

Trump also told the outlet that Nichols screaming for his mother was \u201ca very sad moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Joe Biden has also condemned the beating but brought race into it \u2014 even though all of the officers are black.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike so many, I was outraged and deeply pained to see the horrific video of the beating that resulted in Tyre Nichols\u2019 death,\u201d Biden said in a statement after the videos were released to the public. \u201cIt is yet another painful reminder of the profound fear and trauma, the pain, and the exhaustion that Black and Brown Americans experience every single day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy heart goes out to Tyre Nichols\u2019 family and to Americans in Memphis and across the country who are grieving this tremendously painful loss,\u201d Biden said. \u201cThe footage that was released this evening will leave people justifiably outraged. Those who seek justice should not to resort to violence or destruction. Violence is never acceptable; it is illegal and destructive. I join Mr. Nichols\u2019 family in calling for peaceful protest.\u201d<\/p>\n
