The Brazilian NGO which posted images of Yanomami indios from Venezuela, claiming they were victims of Jair Bolsonaro, is a leftist organization which embezzled $6.5 million of taxpayer funds, reveals investigative journalist Oswaldo Eust\u00e1quio. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Public data from the Brazilia Federal Court of Auditors reveals that the NGO URIHI<\/a> diverted R$ 33 million (US$ 6.5 million) from public coffers meant for indigenous health measures in the state of Roraima, according to Oswaldo Eust\u00e1quio<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe public funds that are intended to be used for food, sanitation and health of the indigenous Yanomami instead are being used to enrich the leaders who live far from the villages, leaving their relatives in misery\u201d, Eust\u00e1quio said.<\/p>\n

URIHI is led by allies of Lula\u2019s \u00a0leftist Workers\u2019 Party, and faces several lawsuits for misappropriation of public funds. URIHI president J\u00fanior Hekurari Yanomami lives a life of luxury, as his Instagram posts reveal, showing him flying in private planes and wearing Armani shirts. In April, J\u00fanior Hekurari appeared with now-President Lula da Silva at an event.<\/p>\n

On his Twitter account, Venezuelan deputy Romel Guzamana<\/a> acknowledged that the photo of an emaciated Yanomami indigenous woman used by \u201cGuardian\u201d Latin America correspondent Tom Philipps is actually a victim of Nicol\u00e1s Maduro\u2019s communist system in Venezuela (Gateway reported<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Eust\u00e1quio also revealed<\/a> that the newly appointed minister of Indigenous Peoples of the Lula regime, Sonia Guajajara, also misappropriated funds meant for the indigenous Yanomami.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn 2020, the NGO led by Sonia Guajajara asked for donations to the Yanomami people of Rora\u00edma,\u201d Eust\u00e1quio reported. \u201cHowever, the funds for this campaign never arrived in the village, according to local leaders who talked to the reporter. Indigenous people who live on the border between Brazil and Venezuela told the reporter that the leaders of these NGOs live like kings and use all the funds for themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n
