MLB Insider Hector Gomez announced the news of his sudden passing on Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cFormer Mets minor league pitcher Matt Pobereyko passed away at the age of 31 due to a heart attack,\u201d Gomez announced on Twitter. \u201cHe had pitched in the Mexican League and Dominican Winter League this offseason.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mexican League Baseball\u2019s Saraperos de Saltillo, where Pobereyko was under contract, confirmed his death.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe report the unfortunate news of the death of Matt Pobereyko, due to a heart attack that ended his life,\u201d the team wrote<\/a>. \u201cMatt had a great winter where he was listed as the punch king. Directive, staff, coaching staff, and players unite for his eternal rest.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe management, administrative staff, technical body, and players of Saraperos de Saltillo have expressed their sympathy for the Pobereyko family during this difficult time,\u201d the team wrote in another tweet<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pobereyko<\/strong>, a native of Hammond, Indiana, played for the\u00a0Arizona Diamondbacks<\/strong>,\u00a0New York Mets\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Miami Marlins\u00a0<\/strong>minor league teams.<\/p>\n

In the Mexican Summer League he also played for\u00a0Leon<\/strong>. In the Winter League, his last team was the\u00a0Algodoneros de Guasave\u00a0<\/strong>and he was part of the Mexican team that recently played in the Caribbean Series, where he pitched against Curacao and the Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n

The Algodoneros reported that the player died at his home in the United States.<\/p>\n
