Daily Mail<\/a> reports that \u201call together, the charges \u2013 falsifying business records in the first degree \u2013 carry a maximum sentence of more than 100 years in prison under New York law, but even if convicted on all charges, it\u2019s unlikely Trump would be sentenced to that much time. Each charge is a low-level felony that carries a maximum of four years in prison for each count.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cThere was no formal conspiracy charge, but the state of facts released by prosecutors describes how Trump \u2018orchestrated a scheme\u2019 with others \u2018to influence the 2016 presidential election by identifying and purchasing negative information about him to suppress its publication and benefit the Defendant\u2019s electoral prospects,’\u201d the report continued.<\/p>\n
The charges stem from an alleged $30,000 payment to a doorman supposedly attempting to sell information about Trump, an alleged $150,000 payment to former Playboy playmate Karen McDougal, and an alleged $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels.<\/p>\n
Trump has denied all allegations against him, including having a sexual encounter with Daniels in 2006.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not just about one payment,\u201d George Soros-funded District Attorney Alvin Bragg said during a press conference after the hearing. \u201cIt is 34 business records \u2013 34 false statements and business records. They were concealing criminal conduct.\u201d<\/p>\n
Following the hearing, Trump\u2019s attorney Joe Tacopina told reporters that this was \u201cnot a good day.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s nothing the indictment itself,\u201d Tacopina said. \u201cIt is boilerplate. It doesn\u2019t allege any federal crime and the state crime that\u2019s been violated. It doesn\u2019t allege what the false statement is, and it\u2019s really disappointing. It\u2019s sad and we\u2019re going to fight it. We\u2019re going to fight it hard.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tacopina added that Trump is \u201cfrustrated. He\u2019s upset, but I\u2019ll tell you what, he\u2019s motivated. And it\u2019s not going to stop him, and it\u2019s not going to slow him down.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump remains the front-runner for the 2024 presidential election.<\/p>\n
His next hearing in the case is not scheduled until December 4.<\/p>\n
