House Republicans are debating whether to impeach US Attorney General Merrick Garland after Speaker McCarthy floated the idea<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n

Speaker McCarthy last month said he will start the impeachment of US Attorney General Merrick Garland by July 6 over his IRS whistleblower testimony.<\/p>\n

IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley told investigators that US Attorney David Weiss, the Trump-appointed Delaware prosecutor assigned to Hunter Biden\u2019s case, said he had no power to bring charges against Hunter Biden.<\/p>\n

\u201cWeiss said he tried to go to the DC US Attorney\u2019s office and they wouldn\u2019t approve it. And he was trying to go charge it elsewhere in California \u2013 and he was trying to seek special counsel authority and that got denied and so this was a shocker to the agents who were present,\u201d Shapley\u2019s attorney Mark Lytle recently told Fox News.<\/p>\n

Biden\u2019s corrupt Justice Department ended up charging Hunter Biden with two misdemeanors for tax-related crimes.<\/p>\n

The gun charge was treated as a diversion case which means Hunters doesn\u2019t even have to plead guilty to the charge.<\/p>\n

As part of the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden, there were multiple witness interviews planned for December 8, 2020. IRS Supervisory Special Agent Gary Shapley and the former FBI supervisory special agent were assigned to interview Hunter Biden.
\nOn the evening of December 7, 2020, Shapley and the FBI supervisory special agent learned that FBI headquarters had notified Secret Service headquarters about the planned interview with Hunter Biden. Additionally, they learned the Biden transition team was notified about the planned interview. This was not the original plan by the career agents, which frustrated their investigative efforts because people found out who didn\u2019t need to know.
\nOn December 8, 2020, Shapley and the FBI supervisory special agent were notified they would not be allowed to approach Hunter Biden\u2019s house and instead would have to wait near his residence until Hunter Biden contacted them.
\nThe former FBI supervisory special agent told committee investigators he had never been told to wait outside to be contacted by the subject of an investigation.<\/strong><\/span>
\nAs a result of these actions, Shapley and the former FBI supervisory special agent never interviewed Hunter Biden.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Republicans are debating whether to impeach Garland.<\/p>\n

House Republicans are debating whether to focus impeachment efforts on Attorney General Merrick Garland after Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) suggested an inquiry against him, taking some members by surprise after much of the GOP impeachment furor had been directed at other Biden officials.<\/p>\n

In a year where the GOP has been most steadily focused on possible impeachments of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas or President Biden, McCarthy often has been the voice urging the conference to move patiently and deliberately. <\/p>\n

But he has shown more vigor when eyeing Garland, an official leading an agency often derided by the GOP but a figure less frequently cited by the party\u2019s members who are most keen on impeachment.<\/p>\n

McCarthy first elevated the topic with a tweet late last month touting testimony of an IRS whistleblower who has alleged mismanagement of the investigation into Hunter Biden, saying it could serve as \u201ca significant part of a larger impeachment inquiry.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the conference \u2014 though eager to investigate \u2014 hasn\u2019t rushed to back the idea, with some questioning whether there is a legal basis for impeaching Garland and others saying different Cabinet secretaries should be reviewed first.<\/p>\n
