\nYesterday, top leaders of the\u00a0American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)\u00a0and\u00a0Society of Family Planning\u00a0wrote an op-ed<\/a>\u00a0in The Washington Post calling for \u201chonesty\u201d in the abortion debate.<\/p>\n

And they honestly expressed their support for abortion on demand, at any time, for any reason.<\/p>\n

\n

Christopher M. Zahn, Interim Chief Executive of ACOG, and\u00a0Jenni Villavicencio, I<\/span>nterim Director of Advocacy and Public Affairs for the Society of Family Planning, state that abortions\u00a0\u201cmust be available without restrictions, without limitations and without barriers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Their disturbing arguments came in response to an op-ed by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser and Kellyanne Conway.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In the piece titled \u201cIf they want to win, Republicans need to go on offense on abortion,\u201d Dannenfelser and Conway \u00a0lay out a strong pro-life platform in contrast to the Democrat Party\u2019s extremist views of abortion on demand.<\/span><\/p>\n

The pair write:<\/a><\/p>\n

A number of GOP officeholders and even presidential aspirants use \u201cstates\u2019 rights\u201d as an excuse to tape their mouths shut on abortion. This should not, and will not, stand. Will they be silent, too, on school choice, policing, community crime, homelessness and other purely local issues? No, nor should they be. Voters have the right to know where each candidate stands on abortion \u2014 with specificity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Democrats\u2019 message-testing instructs them<\/a> to scaremonger about a GOP \u201cnational ban\u201d with no exceptions and to avoid important realities of a child\u2019s development \u2014 such as a heartbeat at six weeks<\/a> or the evidence that unborn children can feel pain<\/a> by 15 weeks. Democrats are making a radical push<\/a> for abortion on demand throughout pregnancy and will try to put some version of that question on the ballot in the coming election.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Zahn and Villavicencio hit back and reinforced the extreme position of the Democrat Party, including abortion up to birth:<\/p>\n

As medical experts, physicians, scientists and advocates for unrestricted access to abortion care, we understand that many people have complex feelings about abortion. But publishing misleading information about abortion \u2014 such as that espoused by Kellyanne Conway and Marjorie Dannenfelser in their Aug. 25 op-ed, \u201cRepublicans need to go on offense on abortion<\/a>\u201d \u2014 does nothing to advance compassionate, accurate discussions about abortion as an essential part of health care.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The<\/span> misinformation<\/a> perpetuated<\/a> by Ms. Conway and Ms. Dannenfelser (and by the <\/span>crisis pregnancy centers<\/a> they wrongly praise) is commonly used to strip access to abortion from patients such as ours and prevent clinicians from providing people with evidence-based health care.<\/span><\/div>\n

Abortion is safe. It improves and saves lives, and it must be available without restrictions, without limitations and without barriers \u2014 just as any other critical part of health care.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Safe for women? Maybe. \u00a0Safe for babies? Absolutely not.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Ingrid Skop, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., a board-certified OB-GYN who has practiced in Texas for nearly 30 years and serves as vice president and director of medical affairs at Charlotte Lozier Institute\u00a0responded saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cAs an obstetrician for the last 30 years, I have advocated and cared for both of my patients\u2014mothers and their unborn children. This brazen proclamation from ACOG, while sad to see, is reflective of a discouraging new reality: In ACOG\u2019s leadership and the broader medical community, there\u2019s no place for dissent on the issue of unlimited abortion for any reason, at any time in pregnancy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are witnessing, in real time, a vocal, political takeover of a scientific community that represents the most honorable and beautiful profession, responsible for safely bringing new life into the world. I wish ACOG would realize that their promotion of elective abortion without limits isn\u2019t reflective of the views of their own members, considering about\u00a090% of practicing obstetricians<\/a>\u00a0will not perform<\/a>\u00a0an elective abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n
