Kiara O\u2019Bryant, a Seattle-based flight attendant at Alaska Airlines, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2023\/sep\/17\/flight-attendants-threaten-strikes-alaska-american-united\">The Guardian,<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of that time we spend with passengers on the ground or sitting and waiting for other aircrafts in between flights goes unpaid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are instances where flight attendants are sitting anywhere from two to four hours, what becomes a mechanical rolling delay, where that full time is not accounted for and paid for. So, it\u2019s not just the boarding, but it\u2019s anytime that we are required to be on duty at work in uniform, that we are advocating for pay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This summer, the 26,000 flight attendants at American Airlines voted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apfa.org\/2023\/08\/31\/8-31-23-negotiations-update-31-sending-a-powerful-message\/\">99.47%<\/a> in favor of authorizing a strike against the airline. \u00a0Union representatives have been negotiating with the airline since 2019 while workers have been without a pay raise or cost of living raise in over four years.<\/p>\n<p>Pickets at the airline\u2019s major bases have been ongoing as negotiations continue.<\/p>\n\n<p>Pickets by United Airlines flight attendants were held at 19 airports across the country on August 31 demanding a new contract for the more than 25,000 workers to address understaffing and operational issues.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2023\/sep\/17\/flight-attendants-threaten-strikes-alaska-american-united\">The Guardian reports:<\/a><\/p>\n<p>American Airlines <a href=\"https:\/\/news.aa.com\/news\/news-details\/2023\/American-Airlines-reports-second-quarter-2023-financial-results-CORP-FI-07\/default.aspx#:~:text=Returning%20to%20profitability,billion%20in%20the%20second%20quarter.\">reported <\/a>record quarterly revenue in the second quarter of 2023 at $14.1bn, United Airlines <a href=\"https:\/\/simpleflying.com\/united-airlines-14-billion-operating-revenue-q2-2023\/\">reported <\/a>record revenue in the same quarter at $14.2bn and a threefold increase in profit, and Alaska Airlines also <a href=\"https:\/\/simpleflying.com\/alaska-airlines-records-240-million-profit-q2-2023\/#:~:text=The%20company%27s%20operating%20revenue%20was,total%20recorded%20in%20its%20history.\">reported<\/a> record revenue in the second quarter of 2023 at $2.8bn.<\/p>\n<p>A strike, however, has complications. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/crsreports.congress.gov\/product\/pdf\/LSB\/LSB10861\">The Railway Labor Act<\/a> prevents a strike, despite what workers want, until the <a href=\"https:\/\/nmb.gov\/NMB_Application\/\">National Mediation Board<\/a> releases the union and airline into a 30-day cooling-off period.<\/p>\n<p>The post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/2023\/09\/as-airlines-amass-record-setting-profits-strike-looms\/\">As Airlines Amass Record Setting Profits, Strike Looms Ahead of Holiday Travel at 3 Major Airlines<\/a> appeared first on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/\">The Gateway Pundit<\/a>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Major US airlines have recovered from Covid-19 pandemic losses and can boast of a healthy bottom line with<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":0,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"nf_dc_page":"","om_disable_all_campaigns":false,"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_feature_clip_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-17957","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.7 -
