Something strange is happening to the Britain\u2019s Home Office. <\/strong><\/p>\n

After previous head of the office, Suella Braverman, was dismissed following a controversy with the Met police \u2013 that she accused to have a pro-Hamas, anti-Israel bias \u2013 now it\u2019s the new Home secretary, James Cleverly, who is in hot water, with many demanding his resignation.<\/p>\n

This newest controversy \u2013 mind you \u2013 was not the result of some serious disagreement over public policies, but rather, the consequence of a sick joke that Cleverly told during a reception a N.10, Downing Street.<\/p>\n

Home Secretary Cleverly is under fire Sunday for joking about date rape \u2013 a mere hours after announcing plans to crack down on what he had dubbed a \u2018perverse\u2019 offense.<\/p>\n

Associated Press<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n

\u201cCleverly, who oversees national security and law enforcement in England and Wales, faced a call to step down after he reportedly joked at an event at the prime minister\u2019s home about drugging his wife.<\/em><\/p>\n

He told women guests at a Dec. 18 reception that the secret to a long marriage was having a spouse who \u2018is always mildly sedated so she can never realize there are better men out there\u2019, the Sunday Mirror newspaper reported.<\/em><\/p>\n

Cleverly said \u2018a little bit of Rohypnol\u2019 \u2014 the so-called date rape drug \u2014 \u2018in her drink every night\u2019 was \u2018not really illegal if it\u2019s only a little bit\u2019.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The drug is known as a \u2018roofie\u2019<\/em>. It can be crushed and put into someone\u2019s beverage, making the person with the spiked drink feel drowsy, possibly leading to unconsciousness and memory loss.<\/p>\n

\u201cCleverly apologized through a spokesperson for what he called an \u201cironic joke\u201d after he had announced the Conservative government planned to update legislation to make clear that such drink spiking is illegal. He described the practice as a \u201cperverse\u201d crime.<\/em><\/p>\n

The comments were made during a drinks reception at 10 Downing Street where political journalists mingled with political aides, ministers and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201c\u2019It is truly unbelievable that the home secretary made such appalling jokes on the very same day the government announced new policy on spiking\u2019, Yvette Cooper, a Labour member of Parliament, said. \u2018Victims will understandably be questioning if they can trust him to take this vile crime seriously\u2019.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

England and Wales see over 500 reports of spiking per month, in most cases by women targeted at bars and nightclubs.<\/p>\n
