{"id":23562,"date":"2024-01-16T23:39:23","date_gmt":"2024-01-16T23:39:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sasquatchnewsonline.com\/?p=23562"},"modified":"2024-01-16T23:39:23","modified_gmt":"2024-01-16T23:39:23","slug":"iowa-republican-senator-chuck-grassley-hospitalized-with-undisclosed-infection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sasquatchnewsonline.com\/?p=23562","title":{"rendered":"Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley Hospitalized with Undisclosed Infection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>90-year-old GOP Senator Chuck Grassley is in the hospital and is being treated for an infection, his office announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The infection was not disclosed, but he is currently being treated with antibiotics. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is receiving antibiotic infusions at an area hospital to treat an infection,\u201d his office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/01\/16\/politics\/chuck-grassley-hospitalized-with-infection\/index.html\">said<\/a> in a statement. \u201cHe is in good spirits and will return to work as soon as possible following doctors\u2019 orders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Credit: @AllisonPapson<\/p>\n<p>Grassley\u2019s spokesperson, Taylor Foy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2024\/01\/16\/iowa-us-senator-chuck-grassley-hospitalized-for-infection\/72247695007\/\">told <\/a>the Des Moines Register Grassley went to the hospital Sunday where they did tests to make a diagnosis and begin the infusions. That treatment is ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>Foy said he could not share information about how long Grassley might remain in the hospital. But he said Grassley is expected to make a full recovery.<\/p>\n<p>As CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/01\/16\/politics\/chuck-grassley-hospitalized-with-infection\/index.html\">notes<\/a>, the news comes just days before a deadline for a partial government shutdown.   Congressional leaders previously agreed to a deal to keep the federal government funded into March. Both parties, however, will need to find votes to pass the legislation through both chambers before the deadline on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The news outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/01\/16\/politics\/chuck-grassley-hospitalized-with-infection\/index.html\">reports<\/a> the Senate is scheduled to take a procedural step to move the government funding resolution along later tonight. Democrats currently hold a 51-49 majority. <\/p>\n<p>Grassley won his first election to the Senate in 1980 and has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/us-senator-grassley-receiving-antibiotic-infusions-hospital-statement-2024-01-16\/?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=Social\">reelected <\/a>seven times by the voters of Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>Grassley is <a href=\"https:\/\/themessenger.com\/politics\/sen-chuck-grassley-hospitalized-for-infection\">currently<\/a> the ranking Republican on the Senate Budget Committee.
