{"id":25707,"date":"2024-02-29T21:48:09","date_gmt":"2024-02-29T21:48:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sasquatchnewsonline.com\/?p=25707"},"modified":"2024-02-29T21:48:09","modified_gmt":"2024-02-29T21:48:09","slug":"trump-appeals-democrat-judges-decision-to-ban-him-from-illinois-ballot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sasquatchnewsonline.com\/?p=25707","title":{"rendered":"Trump Appeals Democrat Judge\u2019s Decision to Ban Him from Illinois Ballot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Trump appealed Cook County Circuit Court Judge Tracie Porter\u2019s ruling to remove him from the Illinois ballot.<\/p>\n<p>Porter, a Democrat, barred Trump from the 2024 primary ballot under the 14th Amendment after she concluded he engaged in an insurrection.<\/p>\n<p>The legal theories are based on Section 3 of the US Constitution\u2019s 14th Amendment which states public officials who have \u201cengaged in insurrection or rebellion against\u201d the US may be disqualified from public office.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has not been charged with engaging in insurrection or rebellion against the United States.<\/p>\n<p>This case ended up in the Cook County court after the Illinois State Board of Elections<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/2024\/01\/just-legal-challenge-seeking-bar-trump-illinois-ballot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> last month unanimously voted<\/a> they lacked the authority to bar Trump from the ballot.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Porter stayed her order until Friday to allow Trump to file an appeal.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s lawyers also asked Judge Porter to extend the stay to her order until the appeals court makes a decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStaying the judgment until the Illinois appellate courts finally decide this case would reduce the great risk of voter confusion and logistical difficulties for election officials,\u201d Trump\u2019s lawyers wrote in the filing, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/02\/29\/politics\/trump-appeals-illinois-decision\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump is currently battling similar challenges in other states.
