According to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, the members of the modern entertainment industry appear to be collectively turning their backs on tech mogul Elon Musk<\/a> \u2014 and it\u2019s all got to do with politics.<\/p>\n The Reporter opened the report by mentioning unconfirmed plans for Musk and one of his companies, electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla, to unveil a self-driving taxi.<\/p>\n However, the event to reveal that vehicle \u2014 tentatively titled \u201cCyberCab\u201d \u2014 has been indefinitely postponed.<\/p>\n \u201cBut, if it does move forward, the global launch of a new Tesla at Warners is certain to raise eyebrows in Hollywood and draw scrutiny toward the chummy relationship between the carmaker\u2019s increasingly controversial CEO, Elon Musk, and Warner\u2019s embattled chief executive, David Zaslav,\u201d the Reporter noted.<\/p>\n After noting that Warner Bros. refused to comment on this report, The Hollywood Reporter pivoted to some curious editorializing of Musk\u2019s unique politics.<\/p>\n (It\u2019s not entirely fair to call Musk \u201cliberal\u201d or \u201cconservative.\u201d)<\/p>\n \u201cAs Musk has continued his trajectory into the MAGA-verse \u2014 pledging allegiance to right-wing conspiracies, amplifying racist and antisemitic messages, disparaging trans people, including his own daughter, and endorsing Donald Trump \u2014 his stock in Hollywood, and that of his brand, has plummeted,\u201d the report states.<\/p>\n \u201cElon is very outspoken, and his political views are not as popular in the entertainment industry,\u201d a Hollywood CEO (in charge of making movies more eco-friendly) told the Reporter.<\/p>\n That CEO, Debbie Levin, continued by explaining how Hollywood often ties their conscience to money.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Tesla became the \u2018It\u2019 car in terms of electrification,\u201d Levin told the outlet. \u201cIf you could spend $100,000 on a car, that was sort of the way to go to show that you care about the environment.\u201d<\/p>\n Ed Kim, president and chief analyst of Auto Pacific, a Southern California-based mobility research firm, told the Reporter that even beyond sentiment and popularity, the numbers aren\u2019t in Musk\u2019s favor.<\/p>\n \u201cCertainly we have seen sales drop significantly at Tesla this year,\u201d Kim said, before further explaining that Tesla was losing market share in the very field it helped pioneer: commercially available electric vehicles.<\/p>\n \u201cDespite all the headlines, EV sales are still growing,\u201d Kim said. \u201cThey\u2019re just not growing at the same speed that they were before. But Tesla is actually losing sales.\u201d<\/p>\n Alexander Edwards, president of a California-based consultancy firm, made it clear that politics were a part of this.<\/p>\n \u201cRejection of Tesla recently spiked and continues among Democrats.
