North Carolina\u2019s Supreme Court race is headed for a recount due to a close final tally as the Democrat pulled ahead two weeks after Election Day.<\/p>\n

Democrat incumbent Sarah Riggs closed the race with 2,770,818 votes to GOP challenger Jefferson Griffin\u2019s 2,770,193 votes.<\/p>\n

The race is headed for a recount since the vote difference is fewer than 10,000 votes.<\/p>\n

Republican Griffin was leading the race until all of a sudden Democrat Riggs overcame her opponent weeks after the election.<\/p>\n

President Trump won North Carolina by more than 3 percent over Kamala Harris in the 2024 election but somehow the Democrats took many down ballot races.<\/p>\n

The Democrat incumbent is now ahead by 600 votes after late votes came in for the North Carolina Supreme Court seat.<\/p>\n

The 2024 race for a seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court is headed for a recount due to an extremely close final vote tally.<\/p>\n

The North Carolina State Board of Elections declared on Tuesday, Nov. 19, that a recount will be held for the race for seat 6 on the state\u2019s high court. More final vote tallies for the 2024 election were submitted to the board Tuesday, leaving a slim margin between apparent-winner Allison Riggs, the Democratic incumbent, and Republican Jefferson Griffin.<\/p>\n

By 3:23 p.m. on Tuesday, the state elections board reported the following final vote counts for the candidates:<\/p>\n

Griffin (GOP): 2,770,193
\nRiggs (Dem): 2,770,818
\nBy that count, Justice Riggs led Griffin by 625 votes \u2014 which equals about a .02% difference. Candidates are allowed to request a recount in statewide races if the vote difference equals 10,000 or fewer votes, according to North Carolina law.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
