If that sounds flippant under the circumstances, then perhaps the reader will pardon a bit of facetiousness, for some outrages strike us as so shocking that we cannot muster the appropriate condemnatory words. Thus, we turn to humor and prayer. And that fact alone proves that God brings light even from extreme darkness.<\/p>\n

Sunday on the social media platform X, a non-profit organization called \u201cCatholics for Choice\u201d promoted its pro-abortion agenda by suggesting that the Virgin Mary could have aborted her child, Jesus<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, most X users found the post repellent.<\/p>\n

For instance, X\u2019s crowd-sourced \u201cCommunity Note\u201d system pointed out the obvious regarding the Virgin Mary\u2019s \u201cchoice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Catholic Church teaches that Mary gave her free and informed \u2018yes\u2019 to God\u2019s plan to bear Jesus, a decision made \u00bbbefore\u00ab His conception,\u201d the Note read.<\/p>\n

In other words, the shockingly blasphemous<\/a> post did not even make sense by the organization\u2019s own terms.<\/p>\n

Moreover, many X users recognized evil when they read it.<\/p>\n

Of course, history abounds with this sort of deceptive nomenclature.<\/p>\n

The Holy Roman Empire, as Voltaire once quipped, was neither holy, nor Roman, nor an empire. The states that comprised the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) bore no resemblance to republics. Nor does the People\u2019s Republic of China.<\/p>\n

Likewise, in recent years we have seen numerous examples of language that inverts truth. The phrases \u201cmostly peaceful<\/a>,\u201d \u201cfollow the science<\/a>\u201d and \u201cthreat to democracy<\/a>\u201d leap to mind.<\/p>\n

If you believe in the supernatural, as Christians do, then \u201cCatholics for Choice\u201d might as well read \u201cSheep for Wolves.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thus, the best and perhaps only service we can render our deluded \u201cCatholics for Choice\u201d neighbors is, first, to take the edge off their abominable post by treating it as ridiculous, and second \u2014 most importantly \u2014 to pray for them, albeit in a way that avoids delusions of moral superiority and reminds us of our own susceptibility to evil temptations.<\/p>\n
