The House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a bill banning transgender athletes (biological males) from competing in girl\u2019s sports at schools that receive federal funding.<\/p>\n

The Trump-backed bill introduced by GOP Rep. Greg Steube dubbed the \u201cProtection of Women and Girls in Sports Act,\u201d passed the House 218 to 206.<\/p>\n

Every Republican voted \u201cyea\u201d \u2013 Two Democrats joined Republicans and voted \u201cyea.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe bill, known as the \u201cProtection of Women and Girls in Sports Act,\u201d would amend Title IX, the federal law banning sex discrimination in schools, to recognize a person\u2019s \u201csex\u201d as \u201cbased solely on a person\u2019s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.\u201d Schools who allow \u201ca person whose sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity that is designated for women or girls\u201d risk losing federal funding.\u201d \u2013 CBS News reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Rep. Steube said it\u2019s a good day for the country that this bill passed.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn overwhelming majority of Americans believe that men don\u2019t belong in women\u2019s sports, and that we must allow common sense to prevail. My bill will deliver upon the mandate the American people gave Congress to restore the integrity of women\u2019s sports, just as Title IX intended,\u201d Steube said.<\/p>\n
