The Washington Post is in a major rough spot. The once iconic publication has lost a ton of its traffic since 2021<\/a> and their unhinged lefty writers are deserting them.<\/p>\n

Now they\u2019re attempting to rebrand. They are dropping their \u2018democracy dies in darkness\u2019 slogan in favor of a new one that\u2019s not much better.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not clear how this is supposed to turn around their losing streak.<\/p>\n

The statement is meant to be an internal rallying point for employees, according to two people with knowledge of the decision. Executives are not planning to replace its more strident public slogan. Suzi Watford, The Post\u2019s chief strategy officer, has been previewing it to some employees this week.<\/p>\n

The new mission statement comes amid turmoil in the newsroom. Since June, The Post has been reeling from a series of crises that has resulted in widespread dissatisfaction with Will Lewis, the company\u2019s chief executive. On Wednesday, more than 400 employees sent a letter to Jeff Bezos, the paper\u2019s billionaire owner, requesting a meeting to discuss leadership decisions that they said \u201cled readers to question the integrity of this institution\u201d and that \u201cprompted some of our most distinguished colleagues to leave.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Maybe they have a bigger problem than slogans.<\/p>\n

Unless the mission involves doing away with partisan narrative driving, WaPo will continue to be the master of its own demise.<\/p>\n

The actual statement is even funnier. To be honest, WP\u2019s stories are better than many airport paperbacks. Russia collusion coup attempts, unsubstantiated rape smears against political opponents, COVID being from a wet market, etc. https:\/\/t.co\/VedhvAosf2<\/a><\/p>\n
