While \u201cregular\u201d Americans face the dire consequences of the unchecked flow of illegals into the country, leaders from one wealthy enclave did their best to make sure residents didn\u2019t have to worry about their cheap labor disappearing.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, East Hampton leaders held a meeting to reassure residents of the exclusive Long Island, New York community that local police would not help ICE deport their illegal maids, landscapers, and nannies.<\/p>\n

East Hampton Village Police Chief Jeffrey Erickson stressed that local law enforcement officers do not have authority to enforce federal law \u2014 and won\u2019t hold onto undocumented immigrants if given an ICE detainer.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it is an ICE detainer or an administrative warrant, we do not have the authority, we will not hold them,\u201d Erickson told a concerned resident, according to the East Hampton Star<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The local officials said a major purpose for the small-scale messaging campaign is to assure undocumented residents that they can interact with police without fear of deportation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She added, \u201cThey\u2019ve been a vital part of the community for a very long time.\u201d<\/p>\n

For now, at least, wealthy residents do not have to fear the trauma of cleaning their own toilets or cutting their own lawns.<\/p>\n
