The German government continues to attack President Trump ahead of newly-elected Chancellor Merz\u2019s scheduled phone call<\/a> with Trump today. In his Bundestag speech marking the 80th anniversary of V-E Day, German President Frank Walter Steinmeier accused the United States of \u201cbreaking with our values,\u201d of all things, just hours after the German secret political police had to backtrack on spying on the opposition<\/a>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cEighty years on from the end of the war, the long twentieth century has definitively come to an end,\u201d Steinmeier said<\/a>, with his usual moralizing, finger-wagging holier-than-thou arrogance:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe lessons learned from two dictatorships and two world wars are now fading. The liberators of Auschwitz have become new aggressors. By unleashing war against Ukraine, Putin has shattered our European security order \u2013 which we had hoped was a lesson learned once and for all from the horrors of war. The international community had drawn its conclusions from the war of extermination and genocide, had introduced rules to curb nationalistic ambitions and foster cooperation, and created an international order on the basis of international law. All of this was never perfect, never uncontroversial, but the fact that now even the United States<\/strong>, who did so much to shape this order, is turning its back on it<\/strong> is a shock on an entirely new scale. It is no less than a double epochal shift \u2013 Russia\u2019s war of aggression, the US\u2019 break with its values<\/strong> \u2013 that marks the end of the long twentieth century.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are seeing with horror that even the world\u2019s oldest democracy can rapidly be endangered when the judiciary is disdained, the separation of powers is overridden and academic freedom is attacked,<\/strong>\u201d Steinmeier attacked the USA. \u201cWe are looking at our country, where extremist forces are gaining strength. They deride the institutions of democracy and those who represent them. They poison our debates. They play on people\u2019s concerns. They profit from fear-mongering. They turn people against each other. They bring old evils back to life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just like Sleepy Joe, Steinmeier is infamous for attacking the patriotic AfD for wanting to save Germany while accusing them of \u201cfear-mongering\u201d and \u201csowing division\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know where isolationism leads, where aggressive nationalism and contempt for democratic institutions can end<\/strong>,\u201d Steinmeier lectured today. \u201cWhen others lapse into nationalism<\/strong> and seek to assert their interests through brute force, we have all the more reason to join together with our partners to seek solutions \u2013 because it is right. When others cast doubt on the United Nations and violate international law<\/strong>, we must uphold these institutions \u2013 because it is right.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Foreign Minister, Social Democrat Steinmeier called President Donald J. Trump a \u201chate preacher\u201d in 2016 and refused to congratulate him on his election.<\/p>\n

At the 2014 Maidan coup, Steinmeier was pivotal in urging elected Ukrainian Presdient Viktor Yanukovitch to flee the country, triggering 11 years of war in the Donbass.<\/p>\n

In Germany, the Chancellor runs the government while the President is a largely ceremonial post akin to the Vice-President, who is supposed to be politically neutral and above the fray.<\/p>\n

Former 1960\u2019s commie radical Steinmeier has frequently been criticized for using his post to campaign against the opposition AfD party.<\/p>\n
