Nashville Mayor Freddie O\u2019Connell is under federal investigation for aiding and abetting illegal aliens.<\/p>\n

WKRN reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\n

Two federal committees will be conducting an investigation into Nashville Mayor Freddie O\u2019Connell for allegedly \u201caiding and abetting\u201d illegal immigration, Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles announced on Monday.<\/p>\n

The investigation stems an ongoing escalation between community members and federal immigration authorities. Ogles called for an investigation into the mayor\u2019s office after O\u2019Connell criticized a \u201cjoint safety operation\u201d conducted by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officials and troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol at the beginning of May.<\/p>\n

The operation ended with 196 people arrested, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that also claimed the Nashville mayor \u201cstands by pro-illegal policies.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Connell\u2019s criticism involved how members of the Metro Nashville Police Department have \u201cbeen delivering safety to this community by reducing crime multiple years in a row,\u201d and pointing out federal officials have \u201cshown us no proof\u201d that those arrested in the early May operation were people \u201cwith criminal histories or criminal intent.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

GOP Congressman Andy Ogles (TN) confirmed the investigation and said he will be formally requesting all documents from the mayor\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re helping violent gangs destroy Tennessee by obstructing ICE\u2014you belong behind bars,\u201d Rep. Ogles said.<\/p>\n

With the support of the House Judiciary Committee, I will be formally requesting all documents and communications from the Mayor\u2019s office related to:<\/p>\n

\u2013 The amendment of Executive Order 30\u2014an outrageous directive requiring Nashville employees and first responders to report all communication with federal immigration authorities directly to the Mayor.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Any internal discussions or documents concerning ICE enforcement actions in Nashville or Davidson County.<\/p>\n

\u2013 All correspondence involving Metro employees and affiliated NGOs regarding the arrest or detention of criminal illegal aliens within the city or county.<\/p>\n
