Why is your grocery bill breaking the bank?<\/p>\n<div class=\"tgp-post-inline-1\">\n<div class=\"adcovery-postinline-01\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>It all traces back to one thing: reckless government spending.<\/p>\n<p>America is drowning in $37 trillion in debt, and Senator Johnson says we\u2019re nearing the point of no return.<\/p>\n<p>This is the warning D.C. insiders pray never goes public.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Ron Johnson sat down with Tucker Carlson, and the interview opened with a moment that exposed just how clueless Congress really is about America\u2019s finances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just asked my colleagues, \u2018Hey, anybody know how much we spent last year in total?\u2019\u00a0<strong>Dead silence<\/strong>,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cUnderstand the federal government is the largest financial entity in the world. We, in theory, are the 535 members of the board of directors. And\u00a0<strong>nobody really knows in total how much the federal government spent because we never talk about i<\/strong>t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That lack of accountability, Johnson explained, has let Congress quietly move nearly a trillion dollars in spending (on things that should be optional) into the \u201cmandatory\u201d category,\u00a0<strong>so they no longer get reviewed or debated<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-video\"><!--[if lt IE 9]&gt;document.createElement('video');&lt;![endif]--><br \/>\n<video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" width=\"1007\" height=\"567\" preload=\"none\" controls=\"controls\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/one.mp4\">https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/one.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He then laid out the math. And these numbers that should terrify anyone paying attention:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>2019 spending:<\/strong>\u00a0$4.4 trillion<\/li>\n<li><strong>2024 spending:<\/strong>\u00a0Over $7 trillion<\/li>\n<li><strong>2025 projected spending:<\/strong>\u00a0$7.3 trillion<\/li>\n<li><strong>Current revenue:<\/strong>\u00a0Around $5.1 trillion<\/li>\n<li><strong>Structural deficit:<\/strong>\u00a0Approximately 6%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Yearly deficit:<\/strong>\u00a0Roughly $2.2 trillion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>So, that\u2019s a 66% INCREASE in spending in just six years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re almost $37 trillion in debt,\u201d Johnson warned. \u201cWe\u2019re spending $7 trillion, and CBO (Congressional Budget Office) projects over the next 10 years,\u00a0<strong>we will add another $22 trillion to the debt<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s if nothing goes wrong. \u201cIf interest rates start creeping up\u2026 just one percentage point,\u00a0<strong>add another $4 trillion<\/strong>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" width=\"1007\" height=\"567\" preload=\"none\" controls=\"controls\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/two.mp4\">https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/two.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Carlson asked what it all means in the real world. Johnson\u2019s answer was simple: less money in your pocket. He said inflation is DIRECTLY TIED to excessive government spending.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cA dollar you held in 1998 is only worth 51 cents today,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0he said\u2014a figure that visibly stunned Carlson.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson didn\u2019t stop there.\u00a0<strong>\u201cA dollar we held just in 2019 is only worth 80 cents\u201d today.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In other words, \u201c<strong>a silent tax<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" width=\"1007\" height=\"567\" preload=\"none\" controls=\"controls\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/three.mp4\">https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/three.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So, in just six years, your buying power has plunged by as much as 20%.<\/p>\n<p>Unless you\u2019re one of the few whose income kept up with inflation, you\u2019re feeling the effects of it pretty hard.<\/p>\n<p>So what happens if the debt bomb finally explodes?<\/p>\n<p>Johnson didn\u2019t sugarcoat it: \u201c<strong>It won\u2019t be pleasant\u2026 It\u2019ll be painful<\/strong>,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n<p>And the people who will suffer the most, he said, are those living paycheck to paycheck\u2014Americans who rely on government benefits and have no financial cushion to fall back on.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" width=\"1007\" height=\"567\" preload=\"none\" controls=\"controls\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/four.mp4\">https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/four.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re living on different transfer payments or different types of welfare benefits, you may not get those,\u201d Johnson explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t borrow more money, so you\u2019re going to have to take what money we spend on other government programs and use it to service the debt. You have to pay it off\u2014unless we want to go into full default,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>Carlson jumped in: \u201cAnd that\u2019s where you just say to Japan and China and Germany and everyone else who\u2019s bought those bonds like we\u2019re not paying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah,\u201d Johnson replied. And that, he said, would be the end of the line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich means you\u2019ll never float more debt other than print more money, which then creates even more hyperinflation. So now people can\u2019t afford anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s when the system breaks.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson pointed out that while smaller countries have defaulted and been bailed out or had their debt restructured, \u201cNobody can [bail us out]. We are\u2026 the world\u2019s reserve currency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And if we lose that status?\u00a0<strong>We lose the magical ability to print dollars that the world still values.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead, Johnson said the way out isn\u2019t complicated, but it will require real political will. He pointed to the post-WWII rollback in federal spending as a roadmap.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe entered World War II, spending 11.7% of our economy\u2019s GDP on the federal government. 11.7%. That got ramped up to 41% during the war. But by 1948, because we had responsible leaders\u2026\u00a0<strong>that actually went down to 11.4% of GDP<\/strong>. And we returned to pre-war level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnson says the same principle still applies<strong>.\u00a0<\/strong>We ramped up spending during COVID to deal with the crisis, but now that it\u2019s over, we should be scaling back to pre-pandemic levels.<\/p>\n<div class=\"captioned-image-container\">\n<figure>\n<div class=\"image2-inset\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<div>\n<p>Johnson says the \u201cBig Beautiful Bill\u201d doesn\u2019t go nearly far enough\u2014it barely scratches the surface. It promises $1.6 trillion in savings over 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>But we\u2019re on track to add\u00a0<strong>$22 TRILLION<\/strong>\u00a0in debt during that same time frame.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t have to be this way.
