Tusk survived vote of confidence.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Liberal, Globalist and an Eurofanatic, Prime Minister Donald Tusk was elected vowing to dismantle the conservative work done by his predecessors from the conservative Law and Justice party, (PiS).<\/p>\n

So far, he hasn\u2019t been able to fully implement the deranged Brussels agenda and, having lost the Presidential elections last month to MAGA-inspired right winger Karol Nawrocki, he is trying to find ways to regain the political initiative.<\/p>\n

In Poland, the president can veto legislation, and Tusk\u2019s coalition lacks a big enough parliamentary majority to overturn an eventual presidential veto.<\/p>\n

So, Tusk has called for a confidence vote in Parliament to take place today (11), a vote he \u2018survived\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Before the vote, Tusk told lawmakers that his pro-European coalition has the mandate to govern.<\/p>\n

Reuters<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n

\u201cRafal Trzaskowski from Tusk\u2019s Civic Coalition was defeated by nationalist Karol Nawrocki in the June 1 ballot, unleashing recriminations from smaller partners in government and casting doubt over the administration\u2019s future when a hostile president wields the power of veto.<\/em><\/p>\n

While the ruling alliance\u2019s majority means it is almost certain to win Wednesday\u2019s vote, a SW Research poll for Rzeczpospolita daily showed that around a third of Poles thought Tusk\u2019s government would not survive until the end of its term in 2027.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2018We have a mandate to take full responsibility for what\u2019s going on in Poland\u2019, Tusk said. \u2018Governing Poland is a privilege\u2019.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Tusk\u2019s government hoped for Warsaw mayor Trzaskowski to become President and allow it to fully implement its agenda.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2019This vote of confidence is not an attempt to continue everything we have been doing because we know well after this year and a half that some things can be done better, faster and this vote of confidence should be a new beginning\u2019, he told a government meeting. \u2018I would like you to know that for the entire\u2026 coalition, this is to be a day of new momentum and I am convinced that you will live up to this task\u2019.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Former PiS justice minister Zbigniew Ziobro, the man who erected the judicial reforms that Tusk\u2019s government has tried to dismantle, had a blunt message:<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2019The lost presidential election is the end of Donald Tusk\u2019, he told reporters. \u2018His fate is already sealed\u2019.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

In theory, today\u2019s confidence vote should be nothing but a formality, since Tusk\u2019s coalition has a 12-seat majority in the lower house, and only needs a simple majority to win.<\/p>\n

BBC<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n

\u201cAhead of the vote, Tusk told the house that they could not \u2018close their eyes\u2019 to the reality that his government faces \u2018greater challenges\u2019 thanks to the election of Karol Nawrocki, who is supported by the Law and Justice (PiS) opposition.<\/em><\/p>\n

[\u2026] \u2018I\u2019m asking you for a vote of confidence because I have the conviction, faith and certainty that we have a mandate to govern, to take full responsibility for what is happening in Poland\u2019, Tusk said. \u2018We are facing two and a half years, in difficult conditions, of full mobilization and full responsibility\u2019, he added.<\/em>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

UPDATE: Tusk wind confidence vote.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Telegraph<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n

\u201cOn Wednesday, a total of 243 MPs in the 460-seat parliament backed Mr Tusk\u2019s coalition, achieving the simple majority needed for the government to survive in a result he said will give his cabinet new momentum.<\/em><\/p>\n

[\u2026] But despite surviving the vote, the prime minister now faces two and a half years of being a lame duck leader hobbled by the new veto-wielding opposition president.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

This will likely see Mr Narwocki block reform efforts planned by Mr Tusk, such as the planned introduction of same-sex partnerships or easing a near-total ban on abortion.<\/em><\/p>\n

There are therefore questions about what Mr Tusk can realistically achieve before the next parliamentary election, scheduled for late 2027.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
