I\u2019m still taking suggestions.\u00bb<\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"3:1-3:288\">The <strong>United Methodist Church (UMC)<\/strong> has undergone significant shifts in its stance regarding the inclusion of <strong>LGBTQ+ individuals<\/strong> in the clergy and in marriage. Historically, the UMC had explicit prohibitions against \u00abself-avowed practicing\u00bb homosexual clergy and same-sex marriages.<\/p>\n<div class=\"tgp-post-inline-1\">\n<div class=\"adcovery-postinline-01\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 data-sourcepos=\"6:1-6:32\">Recent Changes in UMC Policy<\/h3>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"8:1-8:159\">At the 2024 UMC General Conference, historical votes <strong>eliminated long-standing prohibitions<\/strong> on LGBTQ+ clergy and same-sex marriage. These changes mean that:<\/p>\n<ul data-sourcepos=\"10:1-12:0\">\n<li data-sourcepos=\"10:1-10:96\">LGBTQ+ individuals are <strong>no longer explicitly prohibited<\/strong> from serving as ordained ministers.<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"11:1-12:0\">The ban on clergy officiating same-sex marriages and churches celebrating them has been <strong>removed<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"13:1-13:229\">These developments are the result of decades of debate and activism within the denomination, leading to a division, with some more conservative congregations choosing to separate and join the newly formed Global Methodist Church.<\/p>\n<h3 data-sourcepos=\"16:1-16:52\">Participation of Drag Queens in Methodist Clergy<\/h3>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"18:1-18:302\">Regarding the involvement of <strong>drag queens as pastors or in ministerial roles<\/strong>, the situation is more complex and can vary.
