One of the most powerful leaders in Mexico is floating a plan <\/a> for his country to seize a large chunk of the United States\u2019 land as the riots in Los Angeles continue to rage. <\/p>\n

Senator Gerardo Fern\u00e1ndez Noro\u00f1a, the President of the Mexican Senate, responded to mayhem on Monday<\/a> by promoting La Reconquista, a radical idea supported<\/a> by individuals who want the American Southwest returned to Mexico. In his remarks to reporters in Mexico City, he revealed that he once told Trump he supported building and paying for a wall if it included the U.S. territories that were once part of Mexico.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was at Trump Tower when President-Elect Donald Trump was days away from taking the oath of office for the first time as President,\u201d said Fern\u00e1ndez Noro\u00f1a. \u201cI said \u2018yes, we\u2019ll build the wall, yes, we\u2019ll pay for it, but we\u2019ll do it according to the map of Mexico from 1830.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fern\u00e1ndez Noro\u00f1a then held up the 1830 map, which shows the states of California, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and more as part of Mexico. <\/p>\n

\u201cIf you can see, maybe a third or at least a quarter of the North American territory was part of Mexico until 1846,\u201d he explained. \u201cWe were stripped of these territories.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWe were settled there before the nation now known as the United States,\u201d Fern\u00e1ndez Noro\u00f1a added. \u201cThe Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo establishes rights for the people who were settled in those territories, which were not respected.\u201d<\/p>\n

After blabbering about the American city of Laredo and the Mexican city of Nuevo Laredo, the Mexican Senate President returned to Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith this geography, how can we talk about liberating Los Angeles and California?\u201d Fern\u00e1ndez Noro\u00f1a asked while holding up another map showing the American Southwest as part of Mexico. \u201cLiberate them from who? The Mexicans who are settled in that place are settled in what has been their homeland.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe two names don\u2019t deceive, the most spoken language in Los Angeles is Spanish,\u201d he said with a smirk. \u201cYou don\u2019t need to speak English to live in Los Angeles.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States government has the right to implement whatever immigration measures it deems appropriate, certainly,\u201d Fern\u00e1ndez Noro\u00f1a added. \u201cBut they have no right to violate the dignity of migrants. They have no right to separate families.\u201d<\/p>\n

These remarks come just two days after Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum egged<\/a> on the violent protesters and lashing out at the Trump Administration for even trying to lay down the law. During a speech in Mexico City, Sheinbaum hailed the rioters as \u201cgood men and women\u201d who just want to support their families.<\/p>\n

She also threatened<\/a> another insurrection when she called for Mexicans in America to mobilize and take action if the U.S. decides to implement a tax on money sent home to Mexico. Remittances make up roughly 4% of Mexico\u2019s gross domestic product.<\/p>\n

Perhaps Mexico\u2019s top leaders will change their tune if Trump raises tariffs on their country again and cuts off foreign aid. <\/p>\n
