One of the many reasons for the U.S.-China trade war is President Trump holding Xi Jinping accountable for the fentanyl precursor chemicals that are flowing from China to Mexican drug cartels<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The cartels then manufacture fentanyl and distribute it in the U.S., killing over 100,000 Americans per year. This was an issue during Trump\u2019s first term, when China agreed to crack down on these exports, and here we are nine years later, and the chemicals are still flowing.<\/p>\n

China is a totalitarian state that runs a full digital surveillance system where literally every minute of every citizen\u2019s life is being filmed and analyzed with AI.<\/p>\n

The state can achieve a 100% conviction rate against criminals while also cracking down on even the slightest dissent. With his massive AI and data databases, secret police, and spies, Xi Jinping can control virtually every aspect of life in China, yet he claims to be unaware that Chinese chemical companies are selling fentanyl precursors to Mexican drug cartels.<\/p>\n

President Trump has accused China of \u201cactively sustaining and expanding the business of poisoning our citizens<\/a>\u201d and stated that \u201cPRC officials have failed to follow through with the decisive actions needed to stem the flow of\u201d fentanyl and precursor chemicals. In early February 2025, he imposed a 10 percent tariff on all Chinese goods, accusing Beijing of allowing fentanyl and its precursors to be shipped to the United States.<\/p>\n

The tariffs have since escalated, reaching 127.2 percent in early May 2025. The White House has been explicit that Chinese officials have \u201cfailed\u201d to stop the flow of precursor chemicals, used to make fentanyl, to criminal cartels.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement agencies and government officials in the U.S. agree most of the precursor chemicals used to make street fentanyl flow from industrial companies in China to drug gangs in Mexico.<\/p>\n

China is still the principal supplier of these precursors for fentanyl after Chinese trafficking networks switched from supplying finished fentanyl to precursor chemicals.<\/p>\n

China has pushed back strongly, with officials saying \u201cThe fentanyl issue is a flimsy excuse to raise U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports\u201d and that \u201cWe stand ready for practical cooperation with the US based on equality and mutual respect. That said, we firmly oppose the US pressuring, threatening and blackmailing China under the pretext of the fentanyl issue\u201d.<\/p>\n

Under Biden, Xi Jinping made limited concessions, including the implementation of new regulations allegedly targeting money laundering by drug organizations and scheduling three fentanyl precursor chemicals.<\/p>\n

The Biden administration called this a \u201cvaluable step forward,\u201d pointing to a 21% national drop in fatal overdoses from fentanyl since June 2023.<\/p>\n

Both the Biden administration and Beijing claimed that this cooperation was already yielding results even before Trump took office. But these claims are misleading.<\/p>\n

The decline in fentanyl smuggling is largely due to President Trump securing the U.S. border<\/a>. Amazing that it never occurred to previous administrations that you could keep illegal drugs out by sealing the border.<\/p>\n

The assertion that Xi cracking down on capital outflows from China is connected to attempting to stop cartel-linked money laundering is also a lie<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Chinese money launderers help the cartels wash the illicit proceeds from criminal activities. This has nothing to do with money leaving China.<\/p>\n

His actions were part of a broader campaign to stop capital flight from China amid an economic downturn.<\/p>\n

As the Chinese economy falters\u2014plagued by weak demand, rising unemployment, and collapsing business confidence, Xi has tightened currency controls to prevent citizens from converting yuan into U.S. dollars and moving money out of the country.<\/p>\n

Claims that overdose deaths and reporting were down under Biden has nothing to do with Chinese cooperation.<\/p>\n

The real reason is that the Biden administration distributed millions of doses of Narcan (naloxone), relaxing laws to allow virtually anyone to buy, carry, and administer it.<\/p>\n

This strategy, which they described as \u201cflooding the zone,\u201d reduced deaths but did not reduce overdoses.<\/p>\n

Most overdose data comes from hospitals. When people are revived by Narcan without going to a hospital, those overdoses are not recorded.<\/p>\n

The White House itself admits that provisional counts of overdose deaths are underestimated, largely due to death records marked as \u201cpending investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n

A federal study found that for every recorded overdose death, there are eight hospital discharges for nonfatal overdoses, suggesting the real overdose number is far higher than what\u2019s reported.<\/p>\n

Once again, the Trump administration is faced with addressing a problem caused by China, enabled by Biden, and covered for in the mainstream media.<\/p>\n
