The ad plays on a pun: \u201cgenes\u201d versus \u201cjeans,\u201d with Sweeney famously crossing out \u201cgenes\u201d to replace it with \u201cjeans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a voiceover, she says, \u201cGenes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"tgp-post-inline-1\">\n<div class=\"adcovery-postinline-01\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">That wordplay was all it took to send the far left into a full-blown meltdown. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">Some accused the ad of echoing eugenics and white supremacist beauty ideals, citing her blonde hair and blue eyes as part of a subliminal message. A Kean University professor even likened the pun to rhetoric straight out of the American eugenics movement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"523\" data-end=\"562\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">At the Desert\u202f5\u202fSpot premiere of <em data-start=\"46\" data-end=\"57\">Americana<\/em> in Hollywood: Sweeney arrives in classic fashion\u2014pale\u2011yellow gown, hair in old\u2011school waves, black SUV pulling up. As she steps out, a woman in the crowd accosts her:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"565\" data-end=\"606\">\n<p data-start=\"567\" data-end=\"606\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">\u201cStop the ad, that is being racist!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"610\" data-end=\"686\"><span class=\"relative -mx-px my-[-0.2rem] rounded px-px py-[0.2rem] transition-colors duration-100 ease-in-out\">Sweeney remained stone-faced, escorted by security, and slipped into the theater.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"610\" data-end=\"686\">WATCH:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"> HOLY CRAP! It\u2019s for American Eagle, and the jeans are \u201cflying off the shelves.\u201d Go get \u2018em Sydney! On the other side of the ledger, Jaguar did a stupid, and seriously WOKE advertisement, THAT IS A TOTAL DISASTER! The CEO just resigned in disgrace, and the company is in absolute turmoil. Who wants to buy a Jaguar after looking at that disgraceful ad. Shouldn\u2019t they have learned a lesson from Bud Lite, which went Woke and essentially destroyed, in a short campaign, the Company. The market cap destruction has been unprecedented, with BILLIONS OF DOLLARS SO FOOLISHLY LOST. Or just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can\u2019t stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT. The tide has seriously turned \u2014 Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be. Thank you for your attention to this matter!\u201d Trump said on Truth Social on Monday.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It can be recalled that <span>Vice President J.D. Vance also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/american-eagle-issues-statement-sydney-sweeney-ad-campaign-controversy-11783667\">slammed Democrats<\/a><span> over the ridiculous and baseless backlash.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI actually thought that one of the lessons [Democrats] might take is we\u2019re going to be less crazy,\u201d Vance said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the lesson they have apparently taken is we\u2019re going to attack people as Nazis for thinking Sydney Sweeney is beautiful. Great strategy, guys.
