A former Proud Boy whose testimony was used to convict several Proud Boys following the January 6th protest is now recanting his testimony and claiming he was threatened with decades in prison under the Biden Department of Justice.<\/p>\n
According to a sworn video affidavit obtained by National File<\/a> and provided to attorney Nayib Hassan, Jeremy Bertino claims that \u201cfederal agents and prosecutors engaged in a sustained campaign of disingenuous negotiation.\u201d\u00a0 From National File:<\/p>\n Now that Joe Biden is no longer in charge of Merrick Garland\u2019s DOJ, Bertino is coming clean.<\/p>\n Jeremy Bertino, in a sworn affidavit provided to attorney Nayib Hassan, affirmed that his prior statements used to convince the so-called \u201cSeditious Five\u201d were coerced under threat of decades in prison.<\/p>\n Federal agents and prosecutors engaged in a sustained campaign of disingenuous negotiation, characterized by a hide-the-ball style of negotiating in which they concealed the true nature of the final charges the DOJ would bring against Bertino, he says.<\/p>\n By making several much less severe proffers at first, federal prosecutors groomed and cajoled Bertino into a place where he had only two options: testify how they wanted him to, and go free \u2013 or tell the truth and face up to 25 years in prison.<\/p>\n The final charges the DOJ would slap on Bertino were not revealed until the prosecutors had sufficiently coached and groomed Bertino in order to elicit a particular testimony desired by the DOJ that would ultimately lead to conviction of Proud Boys for seditious conspiracy, Tarrio (22 years), Joe Biggs (17 years), Ethan Nordean (18 years), Zach Rehl (15 years) and Dom Pezzola (10 years).\u00a0 Enrique Tarrio was not present in D.C. on January 6th.<\/p>\n In a sworn video affidavit, Bertino recalls that masked SWAT agents knocked on his door, snatched his phone, and rushed him into the back of a black pickup truck.\u00a0 Bertino did not attend the protest at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, as he was recovering from a stabbing weeks earlier and still had 150 staples on the wound.<\/p>\n Following the feds serving a warrant for his electronic devices, Bertino retained counsel.\u00a0 His attorney set up a proffer meeting with the prosecutors, ensuring that whatever he said in the meeting could not be used against him.<\/p>\n According to Bertino\u2019s recent video affidavit, the prosecutors presented the \u20181776 document\u2019 and represented it as being written by Tarrio.\u00a0 He admits that later he found out Tarrio had no involvement in writing the document that was heavily relied upon to secure the seditious conspiracy convictions.<\/p>\n During the second proffer meeting, Bertino said that his attorney implied that \u201cthey want you to play ball or they\u2019re going to try to charge you with something serious.\u201d<\/p>\n Bertino said that the FBI agents had previously implied that he wasn\u2019t going to be charged, however, that tone changed during the following proffer sessions.\u00a0 According to his video affidavit, the FBI agents began to turn the screws:<\/p>\n \u201cSo all along, they were playing it along like \u2018we\u2019re not gonna charge you.\u00a0 We just need you to help us frame the story this way.\u2019\u00a0 That\u2019s when they put the pressure on and were like, \u2018Hey, you\u2019re either gonna play ball or you\u2019re looking at 25 years.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Using his attorney as a go-between, Bertino was told he can\u2019t \u201coutright lie\u201d but that he was \u201cgonna have to bend his statements\u201d to \u201chelp frame this story the way it needs to be framed.\u201d<\/p>\n He alleges that he was coached to use certain words during his testimony, for example, he was coached to use the term \u201cgoal\u201d instead of \u201cplan\u201d.<\/p>\n Eventually he was flown to the DC prosecutors office to meet in person.\u00a0 During the meeting, he claims that \u201cthey had everybody there,\u201d specifically naming Jocelyn Valentine and Jason McCullough, and called them \u201ccoaching sessions.\u201d<\/p>\n During the sessions, the feds would send
