Just last week, Democrat strategists released a list of \u2018woke words\u2019 that they recommended Democrats stop using<\/a> if they want to win elections. Some people on the right suggested that Democrats could never do it and this story seems to be proof of that.<\/p>\n

At the opening of the summer meeting of the DNC, they included a \u2018land acknowledgement\u2019 that claimed Minneapolis sits on stolen land.<\/p>\n

This is the type of woke nonsense that Democrats just can\u2019t seem to divorce themselves from. They can\u2019t let go of it, even as their approval numbers continue to sink.<\/p>\n

The Democratic National Committee kicked off its annual summer meeting in Minneapolis with a \u201cland acknowledgment\u201d that included an assertion that the U.S. perpetuates a system of suppression.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s talk about the land for a second,\u201d said Lindy Sowmick, treasurer of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) and self-described \u201cIndigenous queer woman,\u201d after DNC Chairman Ken Martin introduced her to recite the acknowledgment. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe DNC acknowledges and honors the Dakota Oyate \u2013 the Dakota people \u2013 who are the original stewards of the lands and waters of Minneapolis,\u201d Sowmick continued. \u201cThe Dakota cared for the lands, lakes and the Wakpa Tanka \u2013 the \u2018Great River,\u2019 the Mississippi River \u2013 for thousands of years before colonization. This land was not claimed, or traded \u2013 it\u2019s a part of a history of broken treaties and promises. And, in many ways, we still live in a system built to suppress Indigenous peoples\u2019 cultural and spiritual history.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sowmick encouraged members of the Democratic Party to see the \u201cland acknowledgment\u201d as more than just \u201cthe checking of a box.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
