New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced that he is withdrawing from the race for reelection.<\/h3>\n

There has long been speculation about the possibility of Adams being offered a position in President Donald Trump\u2019s administration in exchange for dropping out of the race.<\/p>\n

Adams announced the news in a video posted to X.<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite all we\u2019ve achieved, I cannot continue my re-election campaign,\u201d Adams says in the video. \u201cThe constant media speculation about my future and the campaign finance board\u2019s decision to withhold millions of dollars have undermined my ability to raise the funds needed for a serious campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adams told New Yorkers that he hopes they \u201cwill see that despite the headlines and the innuendo, I always put you before me.\u201d He also urged whoever wins the race to \u201ccontinue the work we started, lowering the cost of living, investing in quality of life and staying laser-focused on reducing crime and disorder through investments in policing, mental health, substance abuse care, homelessness services and community-based initiatives.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cToo often, insidious forces use local government to advance divisive agendas with little regard for how it hurts everyday New Yorkers,\u201d he said. \u201cMajor change is welcome and necessary, but beware of those who claim the answer to destroy the very system we built together over generations. That is not change, that is chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adams captioned the announcement, \u201cOnly in America. Only in New York. Thank you for making my story a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n

The frontrunner is Democrat nominee Zohran Mamdani, who is a socialist and has announced plans to implement government-run grocery stores.<\/p>\n

With Adams out of the race, it is now between the socialist, grandma-killer Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent, and Republican longshot Curtis Sliwa.<\/p>\n

Sliwa has claimed<\/a> that Cuomo backers have attempted to bribe him to drop out of the race.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no price that can get me out of this race, no amount of money, no bribe, and again, if anybody comes forward on behalf of Andrew Cuomo or anybody else, it will be recorded, and it will be brought to the proper authorities,\u201d Sliwa said during a press conference on Thursday.<\/p>\n
