In the latest insanity from liberal education, according to\u00a0The College Fix<\/a>, \u201cLoyola University Maryland\u2019s Department of English recently announced its commitment to \u2018anti-racism,\u2019 claiming literature promotes \u2018white supremacy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The department of English proclaims on its website, \u201cLiterature and the literary canons have been used to validate \u201cwhite supremacy.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s clear that DEI and Woke ideology remain the dominant ideology at Loyola.<\/p>\n

The department is even considering renaming the website.<\/p>\n

The department also echoes Woke slogans like \u201cblack lives matter,\u201d \u201cracism is based in white supremacy,\u201d and \u201cconfronting racism requires that we actively facilitate conversations about it in the classroom.\u201d<\/p>\n

This department is biased and has an anti-Western civilization bent in that it views Western and English literature as inherently bad.<\/p>\n

The English department even made the absurd promise to \u201cacknowledge the centrality of whiteness in the history and evolution of literary canons.\u201d<\/p>\n

The department pledges to \u201chire a professor of African American literature and include more authors of color in their curriculum. It will examine all classes and commit to \u201cmaking anti-racist teaching central in each one.\u201d<\/p>\n

This sounds more like a struggle session than anything else.<\/p>\n

They went even further than that, absurdly saying they would \u201cavoid centering the experiences of white students\u201d in the classroom by \u201cinterrogating the presumed invisibility of whiteness in the classroom and the concept of the \u2018universal reader\u2019 as always being white and male.\u201d<\/p>\n

Loyola University in Maryland was founded by the Jesuits, a Catholic order.<\/p>\n

According to The College Fix, \u201cThe school\u2019s English department sees that Jesuit mission as a \u201ccommitment to serving an urban, majority-Black city with a history of racial injustice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even a Professor at Emory called out this Woke direction the school\u2019s English department is headed in.<\/p>\n

Prof. Bauerlein rightly argued, \u201cThe position of the Loyola department gives neat evidence for why English has become such a marginal discipline.\u201d<\/p>\n

He acknowledged, \u201cIf the third-rate profs have their way, Shakespeare, Milton, Wordsworth, Emerson, and Eliot will step back so that inferior works by people of the favored identity are included. This is a losing tactic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Indeed, the point of the Woke Left is to demoralize America and its culture, which has made it great.<\/p>\n
