A companion version in the Senate is typically shepherded by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1253\" data-end=\"1350\">The bill claims to \u201crestore independence\u201d to the Court, but its mechanics tell a different story:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1352\" data-end=\"2017\">\n<li data-start=\"1352\" data-end=\"1498\">\n<p data-start=\"1354\" data-end=\"1498\"><strong data-start=\"1354\" data-end=\"1372\">18-Year Terms:<\/strong> Justices would serve 18 years in \u201cactive service,\u201d after which they would be shifted into a newly formalized \u201cSenior Status.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1499\" data-end=\"1654\">\n<p data-start=\"1501\" data-end=\"1654\"><strong data-start=\"1501\" data-end=\"1529\">Guaranteed Appointments:<\/strong> A new justice would be appointed every two years \u2014 during the first and third years of a presidential term \u2014 no matter what.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1655\" data-end=\"1820\">\n<p data-start=\"1657\" data-end=\"1820\"><strong data-start=\"1657\" data-end=\"1685\">The \u201cNine Justice\u201d Rule:<\/strong> Only the nine most junior justices would hear cases and controversies. As new justices are appointed, older ones would be rotated out.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1821\" data-end=\"2017\">\n<p data-start=\"1823\" data-end=\"2017\"><strong data-start=\"1823\" data-end=\"1846\">Permanent Turnover:<\/strong> The system ensures every single-term president gets at least two Supreme Court appointments, eliminating the historical link between vacancies and constitutional service.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"auto\">Radical Democrats are once again scheming to overhaul the Supreme Court, not to restore balance, as they claim, but to neuter its conservative majority and stack the deck in their favor.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\">Rep. Levin has aggressively promoted the proposal on social media, arguing that Supreme Court justices wield unchecked authority for decades without accountability.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\">He wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cRight now, nine Supreme Court justices can shape your rights for decades without ever answering to the American people. That\u2019s not balance. That\u2019s not accountability, and that\u2019s simply too much power for too long.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why I\u2019m cosponsoring legislation to establish 18-year term limits for Supreme Court justices, with regular appointments every two years. We need to put an end to strategic retirements, court-packing games, and a system that changes the direction of the country on a single vacancy or lifetime appointment.<\/p>\n<p>Term limits don\u2019t weaken the Court. They modernize it by restoring balance, strengthening accountability, and rebuilding public trust.<\/p>\n<p>This is how we restore confidence in the Court and strengthen our democracy for the long term.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In an accompanying video, Levin doubled down, claiming that because elected officials face regular elections, the judiciary should face an equivalent \u201cclock.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"14\"><strong data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"14\">Mike Levin: \u201c<\/strong>Presidents serve four-year terms.
