In a leaked recording earlier this year<\/a> of Kevin McCarthy on a call with Liz Cheney and other House Republicans, the Minority Leader told Cheney that he would counsel Trump to resign back on January 10, 2021.<\/h3>\n

\u201cI think [impeachment resolutions] will pass, and it would be my recommendation you should resign,\u201d McCarthy said he would tell Trump before further adding, \u201cwhat he did is unacceptable. Nobody can defend that and nobody should defend it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liz Cheney had pressed McCarthy about whether Trump could possibly choose to resign on his own: \u201cIs there any chance? Are you hearing that he might resign? Is there any reason to think that might happen?\u201d<\/p>\n

McCarthy then admitted that this was a topic he has \u201chad a few discussions\u201d about with others. \u201cMy gut tells me no,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m seriously thinking of having that conversation with him tonight\u2026Um, from what I know of him, I mean you guys all know him too, do you think he\u2019d ever back away? But what I think I\u2019m going to do, is I\u2019m going to call him.\u201d<\/p>\n

The minority leader then explained he would appeal to Trump\u2019s reason regarding an impending impeachment resolution. \u201cThis, this is what I think, we know it\u2019ll pass the House. I think there\u2019s a chance it\u2019ll pass the Senate, even when he\u2019s gone. Um, and I think there\u2019s a lot of ramifications for that.\u201d One such ramification would be that Trump could never hold federal office again.<\/p>\n

McCarthy also indicated that he believed Twitter and Facebook should delete the accounts of lawmakers who were supporting Trump\u2019s claim of a rigged election. \u201cWe can\u2019t put up with that,\u201d he said. \u201cCan\u2019t they take their Twitter accounts away, too?\u201d<\/p>\n

The recording confirms a claim from the left and was documented in a soon-to-be-released book \u201cThis Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America\u2019s Future.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the claims within the book broke early in the news, McCarthy\u2019s spokesman Mark Bednar refuted them saying, \u201cMcCarthy never said he\u2019d call Trump to say he should resign.\u201d McCarthy himself called the claims about his conversations \u201ctotally false\u201d when the New York Times reported<\/a> on them earlier today.<\/strong><\/p>\n

That was a lie. The audio was later released.<\/p>\n

Kevin McCarthy now says he knows who leaked the video to The New York Times.<\/p>\n

And he says he will reveal the name of this person.<\/p>\n

Why?<\/strong> Why would he want to remind Trump voters that he will toss them all under the bus to save his own neck. That\u2019s weird?<\/p>\n

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy says he knows who recorded him criticizing former President Donald Trump in the immediate aftermath of the Jan. 6, 2021, storming of the U.S. Capitol.<\/p>\n

McCarthy\u2019s statement comes months after The New York Times published a recording of McCarthy taken on Jan. 10, 2021, in which he stated that Trump should resign. McCarthy now says he knows who was behind the leaked audio, and he plans to reveal the culprit sometime in the future, according to Politico.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know who recorded me,\u201d he said Thursday. \u201cI\u2019ll bring it forward. I have it.\u201d<\/p>\n

McCarthy initially denied the recording existed, leading the NYT to publish it earlier this year.<\/p>\n
