He knew that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Relatives told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/alex-jeffrey-pretti-shot-killed-minnesota\/\">CBS News<\/a> that \u201cPretti owned a handgun and had a permit to carry a concealed handgun in Minnesota. They said they had never known him to carry it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O\u2019Hara confirmed that he had a permit to carry.<\/p>\n<p>Pretti\u2019s family learned about his death after seeing the video and thinking that it looked like him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t get any information from anybody,\u201d Michael Pretti told CBS. \u201cThe police, they said call Border Patrol, Border Patrol\u2019s closed, the hospitals won\u2019t answer any questions?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eventually, they confirmed it was him by calling the medical examiner.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Homeland Security\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/2026\/01\/dhs-releases-statement-new-details-about-fatal-shooting\/\">statement<\/a>\u00a0about the shooting read in full:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAt 9:05 AM CT, as DHS law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted operation in Minneapolis against an illegal alien wanted for violent assault, an individual approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, seen here.<\/p>\n<p>The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted. More details on the armed struggle are forthcoming.<\/p>\n<p>Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots.
