The top police liaison for Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes abruptly resigned just days after Mayes made explosive comments that dangerously legitimized violence against federal law enforcement officers, specifically ICE agents.<\/p>\n

David Harvey, who served as the Attorney General\u2019s police liaison, quit his post on Friday following Mayes\u2019 inflammatory remarks during a televised interview about Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations and Arizona\u2019s Stand Your Ground law.<\/p>\n

According to AZ Central<\/a>, Mayes\u2019 spokesperson \u201cdeclined to comment further or confirm\u201d whether Harvey\u2019s resignation was directly tied to the controversy.<\/p>\n

The controversy erupted after Mayes appeared on 12News, where she openly speculated that armed Arizona residents could legally shoot ICE agents<\/a> if they could not \u201creasonably identify\u201d them as law enforcement\u2014particularly if agents were wearing masks or not in traditional uniforms.<\/p>\n

Mayes called the situation a \u201crecipe for disaster,\u201d citing Arizona\u2019s Stand Your Ground statute and the presence of armed citizens.<\/p>\n

When pressed by journalist Brahm Resnik on whether she was effectively giving people \u201clicense to shoot an officer,\u201d Mayes responded:<\/p>\n

\u201cAbsolutely not. But how do you know they\u2019re a peace officer? That\u2019s the key.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She continued by suggesting that citizens could later argue they did not \u201creasonably know\u201d they were confronting law enforcement.<\/p>\n

Throughout the interview, Mayes repeated the typical leftist talking points about ICE, claiming they\u2019ve engaged in \u201cthuggish, brutish behavior.\u201d She also previewed a new talking point that we haven\u2019t heard, claiming that ICE is targeting the tribal Indian population in Arizona.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe other thing that I wanna say to ICE is keep your hands off of our tribal members,\u201d Mayes said, laughably claiming that a Navajo man was detained \u201cbecause of the color of his skin.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mayes further discussed the 2026 elections, plans to push back against a buildup of federal agents and ICE around election time, potential seizure of illegal voting equipment, and pushed conspiracy theories about Trump planning to cancel the midterms.<\/p>\n

Notably, she warned that \u201cWe will do everything that physically that we can do to prevent them from seizing anything.\u201d When asked to clarify, Mayes says, \u201cIt means what it means. No one\u2019s taking anything out of our election polling places.\u201d<\/p>\n
