Could Democrats actually be at risk of losing control of the governor\u2019s office in California? The liberal media outlet \u2018Politico\u2019 seems to think so, and if they are saying this, everyone should be paying attention. <\/p>\n

Politico may be biased, but it is a publication that people in Washington, DC read religiously, especially Democrats. They have been around for years and have eyes and ears everywhere in the world of American politics.<\/p>\n

Is it possible that the people of California are finally ready for a real change? Let\u2019s hope so.<\/p>\n

This is what Politico is reporting:<\/a><\/p>\n

Democrats risk a historic upset in California<\/strong><\/p>\n

California Democrats say they\u2019ll clean up this mess. But in a governor\u2019s race that has all the makings of a debacle, they\u2019re digging themselves deeper.<\/p>\n

With a sprawling field threatening to split the vote and hand the governorship to a Republican, a late-hour effort failed to persuade longshot contenders to drop out. A preeminent labor group split its coveted endorsement four ways, elevating no one. And in the most recent upheaval, a televised debate was hastily canceled after an uproar from within the party that leaving out low-polling candidates of color would produce an all-white stage.<\/p>\n

Democratic political professionals here largely insist the field will consolidate once campaigns start running more ads and voters tune in, averting a scenario where Democrats are locked out of the general election. But a dearth of star candidates and the vagaries of California\u2019s top-two election system have pushed California Democrats into precarious new terrain.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know there\u2019s this risk ahead \u2014 a 15 percent chance of calamity. It\u2019s not a 15 percent chance of stubbing your toe, it\u2019s a 15 percent chance of losing the governorship, losing the down-ballot races,\u201d said Paul Mitchell, a leading Democratic data strategist in the state.<\/p>\n

Losing the governorship would rank among the biggest upsets in modern political history. <\/p>\n

For Democrats, who have held a monopoly on statewide office for a generation and outnumber Republicans two to one, it wouldn\u2019t just mean ceding California\u2019s role as a national leader in progressive policymaking. The lack of a top-of-the-ticket standard bearer could also suppress turnout and cost the party House seats, squandering Democrats\u2019 victory last year in a hard-fought gerrymandering campaign.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

What Politico fails to mention here is that Democrats deserve to lose this race.<\/p>\n

California is losing population for the first time in history. The handling of the rebuild from the wildfires over a year ago has been non-existent. The state has the highest taxes in the country. It\u2019s time for the people of California to try something different.<\/p>\n
