An 84-year-old woman was shot while campaigning against a Michigan ballot measure that would legalize abortion until birth on September 20 in Lake Odessa.<\/h3>\n

Now, the man who shot her is claiming that it was an \u201caccident\u201d and has not been charged.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to a press release<\/a> from Right to Life Michigan, \u201cthe 84-year-old victim said that she was shot in the back\/shoulder while leaving a residence during a heated conversation and that the man who shot her was not a part of her conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe victim does not know the identity or motive of her shooter. The victim is still recovering from her gunshot wound and wishes to remain anonymous while the criminal investigation proceeds,\u201d the press release continued.<\/p>\n

The shooter, Richard Harvey, 74, spoke to local station News 8<\/a> and claimed that the woman was in a verbal argument with his wife, who is pro-abortion.<\/p>\n

\u201cI came out and she (the volunteer) is screaming and having a great old time, and being told, I\u2019m sure I heard at least a dozen times, \u2018You\u2019re trespassing, get off the property,\u2019\u201d Harvey told the station on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n

Right to Life, the group that the woman was volunteering with, says that she was peacefully walking away when she was shot in the back of her shoulder.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis lady comes up to me, knocks on my door, and says she\u2019s from some coalition to save women and babies,\u201d Sharon Harvey, the wife who was in the verbal altercation, told the station. \u201cShe needed me to vote no on Proposal 3.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Reproductive Freedom for All ballot petition would amend the state\u2019s constitution to make abortion a \u201cright\u201d in the state without limitations. Pro-abortion advocates are spending millions to make sure the measure passes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI told her I can\u2019t do that and she says, \u2018Well, you have to.\u2019 I says, \u2018No, I don\u2019t. It\u2019s not going to happen,\u2019\u201d Sharon Harvey said. \u201cI told her I had a four-and-a-half month tubal pregnancy, and she says, \u2018Well, you survived, didn\u2019t you?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Harvey claimed that she had to have the procedure in the 70s to end the tubal pregnancy.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe would not take the fact that I was going to vote yes on Proposal 3 as an answer,\u201d Sharon Harvey said. \u201cShe didn\u2019t care. She didn\u2019t care. I told her, I says, \u2018Women are going to die. I nearly died.\u2019 She says, \u2018Well you didn\u2019t, did you?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI says, \u2018You need to go. Just go.\u2019 She says, \u2018Well, I have a right to be here.\u2019 \u2018No you don\u2019t; you need to go. You need to go now. Get off my property.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

At this point, her husband heard the commotion and grabbed a rifle that belongs to his wife. He claims that he fired a warning shot into a pine tree.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe (the volunteer) is still ranting and raving and she\u2019s got this clipboard. She\u2019s waving it around. I\u2019m thinking she\u2019s going to smack Sharon with it. So without thinking, I went to club it away with the rifle and my finger was still in the trigger guard. It went off and hit her about in here,\u201d he told the station, while pointing to his shoulder.<\/p>\n

The Michigan State Police are still investigating the shooting and have not yet filed charges.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s always possible,\u201d he told the station. \u201cI shot somebody. It was an accident.\u201d<\/p>\n

The volunteer drove herself to the Lake Odessa Police Department to report it and was taken to the hospital where she was treated and released.<\/p>\n
