On Thursday, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, paid tribute to the victims of the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, by visiting a memorial near the site of the deadly shooting.
The Duchess was captured by photographers placing a bouquet of roses at a small memorial set up by local residents just outside the Uvalde County Courthouse. The memorial is not far from the scene of one of the deadliest school shootings in more than a decade.
She also dropped into a community center nearby that was hosting a blood drive for the victims still recovering from injuries that resulted from Tuesday’s shooting.
According to DailyMail, while she was there, she toured the community center and donated food. One volunteer told the outlet that “She did not want anybody to know who she was.”
According to a report by Buzzfeed, Markle quietly dropped by the community center’s kitchen to drop off two bags filled with sandwiches, beverages, and desserts for blood donors.

“I had no idea who she was. She just was carrying on a conversation like her and I knew each other for years,” volunteer Gloria Contreras, 40, told BuzzFeed News.
A spokesperson for Markle told People that she took the trip on her own personal efforts as a mother who wanted to show respect and care for the families impacted by this week’s tragic events.
The Duchess did not address the press while in Texas, and it was unclear if the accompanying cameras were part of capturing footage and images for her and Prince Harry’s content deal with Netflix.
Her visit comes just two days after 18-year-old gunman Salvador Rolando Ramos entered the local Robb Elementary School. He opened fire with a couple of assault rifles, killing 19 children and two teachers.
