McCormick Concedes To Trump-Backed Oz In Pennsylvania Senate Race
On Friday, the former hedge fund CEO Dave McCormick conceded to reality television celebrity Dr. Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania’s Republican primary after a statewide recount.
Oz had been leading the race by 972 votes out of the 1.34 million counted in the May 17 primary, The Associated Press reported. However, a recount has been underway for a few weeks to confirm the Trump-backed candidate’s win in the Senate primary.
McCormick called Oz on Friday to officially concede the race after finding he did not have enough votes. McCormick also noted that he would back Oz’s candidacy.
The race had been too close to call, leading the acting secretary of state to announce a recount in late May. According to NBC News, Oz barely held the lead with 31.2%, and McCormick had 31.1% of the votes.
Oz later declared a “presumptive” victory at the direction of former President Trump, who endorsed the TV star back in April.
“I am blessed to have earned the presumptive Republican nomination for the United States Senate,” Oz said in a video posted to Twitter on May 27.

Oz has faced harsh criticism from conservatives on his stances regarding guns, abortion, transgender issues, and ties to significant technology and pharmaceutical corporations.
He was criticized for promoting hormone treatments and sex reassignment surgeries for minors in 2013 during an episode of his television show.
Oz has made claims that a baby’s heart is not beating at six weeks gestation, despite most doctors confirming a heart begins beating in the sixth week of pregnancy.
He called for imposing red flag laws previously, which significantly restricts the ownership of guns. His campaign website states that he opposes such measures.
