After Musk Public Support, AfD’s Alice Weidel Overtakes CDU Warmonger Friedrich Merz in the Race for Next German Chancellor: POLL
What seemed impossible just a few months ago is starting to become not only possible but – dare we say it? – probable.
The German establishment is utterly shocked by a new opinion poll showing that AfD’s Alice Weidel, who just got a very public endorsement by tech billionaire and ‘kingmaker’ Elon Musk, is now leading the race to be the next Chancellor.
For weeks, now, we have been reading the MSM crowning CDU leader Friedrich Merz as the new head of government, totally ignoring the surge of the right-wingers of the Alternative for Germany, following a European trend towards nationalist and populist parties.
Merz’s hopes to move into the chancellor’s office may be about to get crushed, as Weidel sprints away from him in the poll.
BILD reported (translated from the German):
“According to a survey by the opinion research institute INSA for BILD, 24 percent of Germans would vote for Weidel as chancellor. 1005 people were surveyed on December 18 and 19 – i.e. before the Attack on a Christmas market in Magdeburg.
For Weidel, this is not only three points more than in the previous week. It is also a four-point lead over Merz! The CDU politician slips down one point compared to the previous week. In other words, 20 percent of those surveyed would vote for Merz.”
This poll comes after the Musk ‘boost’, but before the Christmas Market terrorist attack that is all but certain to make AfD’s anti-mass migration stance even more popular.
Among young voters (between 18 to 29 years old), only 12 percent would vote for Merz, while support for Weidel stands at 23 percent, with the capacity to continue to grow with the Musk support.
“The only consolation for the CDU leader: It can be even worse. Chancellor and SPD top candidate Olaf Scholz is trusted by just 15 percent of voters, one percentage point less than the week before.
Economics Minister Robert Habeck [Green Party] is also bobbing in the polls with 14 percent approval. After all, he improves by one point.”
