Explosive New Evidence Challenges Connecticut’s Supermajority Attack on Homeschoolers.

A lethal cocktail of two adult-strength psychiatric drug medications and an over-the-counter allergy medicine caused 12-year-old Eve Rogers to drown in behavioral health and drug company products, exploding the state’s calculated narrative against homeschoolers to pass overreaching state mandates.
The medical examiner’s staggering toxicology report revealed a lethal level of diphenhydramine (Benadryl) alongside toxic amounts of the prescription antidepressants Prozac (fluoxetine) and Wellbutrin (bupropion). Armed with these chemical findings, Enfield police arrested the girl’s mother, 39-year-old Melanie Federline, on October 30, 2026, charging her with risk of injury to a minor following the lethal exposure and a pattern of reckless medical neglect.
Twelve-year-old Eve Rogers did not just die; she literally drowned in a cocktail of psychiatric drugs and heavy over-the-counter sedation. This case has become historically critical because state lawmakers immediately weaponized Eve’s death to force sweeping, highly restrictive regulations onto the entire Connecticut homeschooling community.
AbleChild worked directly with prominent homeschool defense attorney, Deborah Stevenson, to alert the Country to the brutal political battle homeschoolers are fighting in Connecticut. Explosive new information coming forward following the arrest of her mother has blown apart the supermajority legislators’ narrative against homeschoolers.
But it is the remainder of the lab work that has elevated this investigation into a criminal homicide track: lethal levels of Prozac and Wellbutrin were also found. These powerful psychiatric drugs were never prescribed to Eve, but it appears other psychiatric drugs were, and Eve was currently being evaluated by an “expert”; the name of that “expert” and behavioral health company is being withheld. Why? When was the last time Eve’s blood work was done prior to her death?
What is certain is that the medications a doctor did prescribe to manage her autism, pending bipolar evaluation, and severe Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), a debilitating chronic cardiovascular condition that causes a rapid heart rate, lightheadedness, and fainting upon standing, sat completely untouched in a weekly pill organizer. What were those drugs? Were therapeutic levels tested?
On Friday, October 30, 2026, Enfield police arrested her mother, Melanie Federline, on a $250,000 bond, as covered in the warrant updates. Court documents reveal the charges stem directly from the “lethal storage” and uncontrolled distribution of both over-the-counter and prescription medications in the home. It is the second arrest in the household; Eve’s stepfather, Anthony Federline, is already jailed on a $1 million bond after his DNA was discovered inside the dead girl’s body during her autopsy.
New evidence reveals that a massive, 250-capsule bottle of over-the-counter sleep aids was being systematically depleted by the mother to keep the vulnerable child sedated “as needed,” leaving only three pills left when crime scene technicians finally tossed the room.
Exploiting the supermajority they hold in the state legislature, Connecticut Democrats aggressively pushed through and passed House Bill 5468, a forced homeschooling regulation bill.
This sweeping legislation forces homeschool families under intense state registration, mandatory in-person school district appearances, and intrusive background check requirements, unleashing a living hell of government overreach for innocent families. Lawmakers weaponized the tragedy, creating a calculated narrative that without mandatory public school oversight, abused children “vanish” from view.
AbleChild has refused to let this narrative stand. Taking the fight directly to the top, AbleChild visited Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont’s office to launch an aggressive appeal urging him to veto the unconstitutional legislation. AbleChild also appealed directly to Connecticut Attorney General William Tong, demanding immediate state intervention to stop this legislative overreach. In a stunning abdication of institutional accountability, Tong claimed he had no power to intervene in the legislative process. Well, Tong certainly could have held the behavioral health providers involved in Eve’s death accountable.
The supermajority legislators blamed a lack of school registration. But as Melanie Federline prepares for her arraignment, the toxicology report completely destroys the state’s narrative, telling a far more clinical, devastating truth: Eve Rogers was destroyed by a cocktail of psychiatric drugs and heavy over-the-counter sedation that the state’s active child welfare agency completely failed to police. What role did the state play prior to the death of Eve, and in this supermajority state will the Democrats repeal Bill 5468,
